With the music streaming industry becoming a tad more crowded and competitive a few weeks ago with the long-rumored launch of Amazon Music Unlimited, it was only a matter of time before the rest of the big players on the scene deployed respective countermeasures.
Indeed, rumors claim that the increased competition might lead Apple to slash monthly subscription prices for its Apple Music streaming service by $2.
This suggested price cut could affect both the individual and family monthly plans — at the moment, an individual can subscribe to Apple Music for $9.99 a month, while the family plan allows up to 6 souls to stream music on the go for $14.99 per month. With the rumored price cuts, the prices could end up being $7.99 and $12.99 per month, respectively. No info about a price slash for Apple Music’s student subscription plan, but that one’s already pretty affordable at $4.99 a month
This will let Apple Music compete with Amazon Music Unlimited on equal grounds – Jeff Bezos’ new service costs $7.99 a month if you’re an Amazon Prime member or $9.99 if you’re not; its family plan is also $14.99 per month right now. In comparison, Spotify charges its users similarly to what Apple currently does – $14.99 for the family subscription plan and $9.99 for the regular monthly one.
The rumor mill suggests that the price update could go into effect by the end of the year, supposedly as a promotional discount for the Christmas holidays.
